Cruise Vacations Update – Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic
(Johannesburg, 10th March 2021) This week marks one year since we prepared our office for lockdown and fourteen months since we started managing the unfolding crisis insofar as travel restrictions are concerned which ultimately led to the temporary cessation of all voyages across our range of cruise products.
Thanks to the support of all of the cruise lines which we represent, we have successfully managed to administrate the cancellation and re-booking of all of our affected passengers. In the past twelve months these cruise lines have worked tirelessly to both ensure that all affected passengers were taken care but also to work towards our successful, but most importantly, safe return to service, which we optimistically hope to see rolling out in the months to come.
The top priority for all of the cruise lines which we represent is to ensure that they safeguard the health and safety of all guests and crew as well as the communities which they visit. In order to do this the cruise lines have employed the services of, and, taken the advice of global experts to design new protocols which are being implemented across the fleets. These include various focus areas which include:
- Pre-boarding measures
- Safety on board
- Safety while ashore on excursions
- Additional on board facilities and protocols
- Booking Confidence Measures – (Protected Deposits; Future Cruise Credits; Covid Protection and Repatriation plans)
More details of some of these measures and how they relate to the cruise lines represented by Cruise Vacations can be found at the following links. Please bear in mind that these are dynamic, ever-changing circumstances and therefore the following information can be used as a guideline but may be subject to change.
We, like you are looking forward to the safe resumption of all voyages. When discussing this recently, Barbara Muckermann, Silversea Cruises Chief Marketing Officer, quoted Hemingway “gradually will one day become suddenly”.
Cruise Vacations are overwhelmed and grateful for the patience, kindness and messages of support we have received over the past year while we have negotiated these unprecedented and challenging circumstances. Most encouraging is the volume of future bookings we are handling, our guests cannot wait to get back to sea. We remain fully operational and on standby to assist and advise you on your future travel plans.
With warm regards from myself and the Cruise Vacations Team
