Statement by Cruise Vacations – Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic
Friday 13th March 2020. The Global Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic is understandably a cause of great concern to our valued clients, in particular those planning and booked to sail in the coming months.
Each of our Principals are closely monitoring the situation and associated travel restrictions on a minute-by-minute basis and communicating as quickly and efficiently as possible, any and all changes. These include the cancellation of certain voyages, itinerary amendments as well as implementing revised cancellation policies and terms. The cruise lines are working on the advice of the WHO (World Health Organisation) as well as CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) to ensure the safety of all guests and crew during this situation.
We receive immediate notification of changes to bookings which we are holding which are in turn conveyed to our travel partners/clients as soon as that information is given to us. Our staff will be working on a standby basis in the coming weeks to ensure that we convey such changes as quickly as possible.
The cruise lines which we represent locally Silversea Cruises, Scenic Cruises Group (Including Scenic Cruises, Emerald Waterways and Scenic Eclipse) have issued travel advisories and restrictions as well as any voyage cancellations and amendments and the most up to the minute advisory is available on the official websites of those cruise lines. https://www.silversea.com/update-on-coronavirus.html and https://www.scenicusa.com/coronavirus-update. We are also receiving regular updates from Star Clippers.
Silversea Cruises have proudly embraced the “Cruise with Confidence” policy which allows a temporary relaxation on Cancellation Penalties which protects guests already booked and considering bookings for a later date. The Scenic Group has also implemented a temporary relaxation on Cancellation Terms & Conditions for the same reason. Full details of these amended terms are available by contacting Cruise Vacations.
Considering the severity of this Pandemic and the immense impact it is having on our industry we are hugely encouraged by the level of understanding and patience being shown by both our clients and valued Travel Partners in South Africa, while we all work through this unprecedented and difficult situation. We are equally overwhelmed by the many messages of support being received – thank you!
Our thoughts, best wishes and support are with everyone affected.
With warm regards from myself and the Cruise Vacations Team
